About the Overstudies

Overanalysing theatre, musicals and everything in between since 2022: we are the Overstudies!

Born from a love of theatre in all forms, London based duo Charley and Bekki founded Overstudies as a space to appreciate theatre purely for the joy of appreciating theatre. From the West End to the silver screen, this is a space to discuss the highs and lows of all things stagey.

Whether it’s a UK regional tour of a well-known favourite or a Off-West End run of a brand-new musical you are bound to find the Overstudies deep diving into every aspect of the show.

We’re a duo that’s not afraid to shy away from the tough conversations and important topics in theatre, and champion the respectful and honest creative decisions when it comes to representation in theatre.

We love to chat about our favourite shows on Overstudies: On Air! as well as writing reviews and sharing the latest news, so we’d love you to also join the conversation on social media at any time.

The Overstudies

For most of her life Bekki has been surrounded by musical theatre and the performing arts, growing up in a family with background in theatre tech and amateur dramatics. However, it wasn’t until moving to London in 2020 that the passion really began to take flight. With a degree in Film and Television Studies, Bekki brings the narrative and thematic knowledge to the Overstudies while simultaneously defending High School Musical 2 as the greatest film of all time. Personal stage credits are few and far between, but include Oliver! and My Fair Lady, as well as multiple dance performances over the years. Bekki's favourite shows include Heathers, Chicago, The Tempest, The Choir of Man and The Last 5 Years.
There's a reason Charley goes by the slogan 'Trains, Theatre, Tea. (& everything in between)'. A life-long theatre aficionado, Charley has had some connection with the stage since the earliest of ages, starting out treading the boards before focussing on technical and direction roles in later education. Returning to London in 2015 has afforded her the opportunity to regularly see shows on and off the West End, rekindling a passion for musical theatre and spreading to going on adventures to Dubai and New York to see some of her favourite shows. When she's not enthusing about Heathers or Six, Charley looks after the technical aspects of Overstudies, whilst also using her extensive knowledge and experience in community radio to oversee and develop our own radio show. Her favourite show will always be Les Miserables, but she also has a soft spot for Heathers, Six, Mamma Mia! and The Lion King, to name but a few.
